The acclaimed Public Theater production of William Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice moved to Broadway after its sold-out run in Central Park. Academy Award® and Emmy Award winner Al Pacino reprised his stunning performance as Shylock in the must-see event of the season.

The Merchant of Venice is one of Shakespeare’s most thrilling and controversial plays, rich with love and betrayal, forgiveness and revenge. The Jewish moneylender Shylock makes a loan to Antonio, a Christian merchant. Their loan contract, steeped in prejudice and centered on the play’s infamous “pound of flesh,” sweeps the two men and everyone in their worlds into chaos. Only the insightful Portia can imagine a way forward, but for her and those she loves, even “the quality of mercy” has its limits.

Lewis Black: Running on Empty

MEP presented this special politically-charged one-person show for one week on Broadway…just prior to the 2012 election.

Black, a stand-up comedian, actor, and author, is one of the most prolific and popular performers working today. A graduate from the Yale School of Drama, an accomplished playwright, a familiar presence on “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” and a Grammy Award-winning artist, Black performs over 200 nights a year to sell-out audiences around the world. He is one of few performers to sell out multiple, renowned theatres including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Broadway’s Brooks Atkinson Theatre, New York City Center and the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Strega Nona the Musical

Tomie dePaola’s STREGA NONA brought its delightful story and fresh, original score to Boston’s Colonial Theatre. Under the direction of Tracy Ward (Hunter Gatherers, Bay Area Premiere), choreography by Nicole McGann and a “pop-up book inspired” set design by Andrea Bechert; the magic of each song brings new life to the material for a young audience and to audiences that have grown up reading the legendary stories of native New England author Tomie dePaola.
