Cruel Intentions: The Musical is set to return to (le) poisson rouge in New York City this fall, this time for a two-and-a-half month run. The show played a sold-out, pop-up engagement at the cabaret venue earlier this year following two hit productions in Los Angeles. The musical will begin performances November 17, 2017. Adapted from Roger Kumble’s 1999 thriller of the same name, Cruel Intentions: The Musical is created by Jordan Ross, Lindsey Rosin, and Roger Kumble, and features 90s hits as well as songs from the cult film’s soundtrack. The show features immersive stage direction by Rosin, choreography by Jennifer Weber, and music direction and arrangements by Zach Spound. Cruel Intentions follows two privileged step siblings who play the ultimate game of seduction and revenge at an elite Manhattan school. The story is based on the 1782 French novel by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos, Les Liaisons Dangereuses. Cruel Intentions: The Musical is produced by Eva Price and Sucker Love Productions. The show debuted at The Rockwell Table & Stage in Los Angeles in 2015, where it ran for 38 sold-out performances, before transferring to L.A.’s Prospect Theatre, where it sold out again, in November 2016. JAGGED LITTLE PILL

The previously reported musical adaption of Alanis Morissette’s 1995 album Jagged Little Pill will make its world premiere at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Performances will begin in May 2018. The ART’s artistic director, Tony winner Diane Paulus, will helm the production. The musical will feature a book by Diablo Cody, who won an Oscar for the screenplay of Juno, and orchestrations and arrangements by Tom Kitt, the Tony- and Pulitzer-winning co-composer of Next to Normal and If/Then. The show, which will showcase several songs from Morissette’s Grammy-winning album, was initially announced in 2013. The original story will follow a modern, multi-generational family and will explore gender identity and race. “This team that has come together for this Jagged Little Pill musical is my musical theatre dream come true,” said Morissette in a statement. “The chemistry between all of us is crackling and I feel honored to be diving into these songs again, surrounded by all of this searing talent. Diablo and Diane are already taking these deeply personal songs that are part of my soul’s marrow to a whole other level of hope, freedom and complexity.” The album, which Morissette co-wrote with Glen Ballard, earned her five Grammy Awards out of nine nominations, including Album of the Year.
